Prejudice has always been a problem in the world that we live in. It comes in many forms, but the story, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is perhaps one of the most impressive. It is the story of a white man defending a black man who was charged with rape. The white lawyer provides the court with proof that is undeniable, but thanks to an all-white jury; the black man is still found guilty. He attempts to escape and is shot for the attempt.
This story is set during the time of a great depression. Whites are penalized for showing support for a black man. Overall, it is a very moving story that you have to read to fully understand. It was first published during the year of 1960 and one year later it was given the Pulitzer Prize. There is also a movie that tells the story, but if you truly enjoy a good read; you will definitely want to add this to your “must read” list.
