Alright, I’m doing this! #BoutOfBooks17

Posted 8 August, 2016 by katheryn13 in Blog Talks, Blogging Challenges, Fun, Readathons, Reading Challenges, Updates, Video / 2 Comments

 It’s not for a while yet, but I plan on taking part in #BoutOfBooks17 and I plan on KICKING ASS!
What is #Boutofbooks17 you ask? Well…
Bout of Books
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 22nd and runs through Sunday, August 28th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 17 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team.
As you probably are aware, I’ve been in a horrid reading slump since my fantastic June reading frenzy. Pretty sure I burned myself out. Since then I’ve not managed to finish anything in July or even this first week of August. Oh yeah, I’ve read a few chapters of different books, and I’ve been rereading stuff, but I’ve yet to finish ANYTHING. It is really getting me down, especially since I’ve bought so many new books in the past few weeks, and I just can’t get the enthusiasm to read, either.
I’ve not participated in any readathons since June, and I am really hoping this one will get me out of this slump and back in the saddle, so to speak. 🙂
If you’re planning on taking part, please let me know by commenting in the box below.
Also if you haven’t already seen, I uploaded 2 new book haul videos, so this will give you an idea of what I might be reading. 😛 Though nearer the time I’ll post what I will ACTUALLY be reading, HAHA.

So I’ll see you later, and remember, keep on reading! 🙂

#SBPT | Week 6: Flo from Book Nerds Across America @TheBookBratz @booknerdsblog

Yo ho everyone! Week 6 on the Summer Blog Promo Tour and wow, I can’t believe we’re this far through the summer already! Jeez…Where is the time going?
Anyway, this week is all about Flo from Book Nerds Across America. Everybody should check out their blog! 😀
Today Flo will be doing the Bookish Identity Tag. So take it away!
CherryBlossom-Divider

Hi! *waves* Flo here. I am co-founder of Book Nerds Across America and…well…I’m a Book Nerd! When I was a little girl, my Mom literally took me aside one day and said, “…maybe you read TOO much?!” Yeah. True story. I devoured Lurlene McDaniel, R.L. Stine, Christopher Pike, John Grisham, Michael Crichton. Fast forward to today, and you’ll get a girl who devours most anything YA and certainly anything that keeps my attention! I love falling into a book, where all I want to do with myself is read it. I love cute, quirky fictional YA guys. I literally need a new bookshelf, because my apartment is being overrun by books. Like Mary, I am a staff member member of Down With The Capitol and co-host of Haymitch Happy Hour. You can follow me on Twitter at@FloeticFlo.

– What dystopian/fantastical world would you live in?
My first thought was the Harry Potter world. How cool would it be to go to Hogwarts?! But I think Narnia was pretty cool, too, right?
– Who would your partner be?
Ooohh….hmm. Vague enough question that I’m swimming in possibilities. My first thought was Cress because she can hack me into anywhere I want to be, so I guess I’ll go with that.
– Who would be your godly mother/father? [Percy Jackson]
Dionysus! God of Wine 🙂 I mean….. ;-p
– Would you be a downworlder or nephilim? [Shadowhunter world]
Nephilim. Blood kinda grosses me out, so couldn’t be a vamp. I’m not clever enough with my words to be fae. And much as I love Jacob Black, Luke and other wolves, shapeshifting looks so uncomfortable, so I couldn’t be a werewolf.
– Which house would you be in? [Harry Potter]
I’m Hufflepuff through and through! #PuffPride
– Which faction would you be in? [Divergent]
Amity. What is it they say in the beginning of the Insurgent movie? “Go in happiness”? Love it!
– What would be your daemon [Northern Lights]
I don’t know this one, so I’ll take a pass.

Thank you to Flo for taking part, and again to The Book Bratz for organising this wonderful tour! I’ll see you next week!
P.s. remember to check out the #SBPT tag on twitter for other bloggers! 😀

#SBPT | Week 3: @LeftyReads of The Left Handed Book Lover @TheBookBratz

Posted 17 July, 2016 by katheryn13 in Blogging Challenges, Fun, Updates, YA / 0 Comments

LCnv16E7 (1)
Annnnd we’re back! It’s week 3 of the #SBPT challenge, and today it’s all about LeftyReads and books she thinks you should be reading now!
Take it away, gurrrrl!

Hey there, lovely book people! I’m Lefty, and I’m the ferocious dragon behind The Left-Handed Book Lover. I’m so delighted to be here on Kat’s blog. I’m going to be telling you about the books I like to recommend to people.

These books are just kind of my go-to recommendations. Obviously, if I get acquainted with someone’s specific taste, I’ll personalize the recs, but these are some of my favorite books that I think a lot of people will enjoy, even if they’re not big readers.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead – This is my favorite book series of all time! It’s action-packed and the characters are a lot of fun. I’m always telling people they need to read this book, and assuring them it’s way better than the crap-tastic movie made in its name. I know the vampire craze is over, but, in my opinion, this series transcends that trend. It’s much more than the standard vampire novel.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – I picked this book up earlier in the year and it quickly became one of my new favorite contemporary books. The friendship elements in it are fantastic, the romance is adorable, and the over-all plot is a ton of fun.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi – This series is quick to read, and the writing is unlike anything else I’ve ever read, so I’m always shoving this book in people’s hands.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry – This is another one of my favorite contemporary novels. I love the romance and the way the two main characters have to work through so much crap going on in their own heads.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes – I actually only read this a few weeks ago, but ever since then I’ve been practically shouting from every rooftop I pass that people need to read this book. It’s heartbreaking and phenomenal

Delirium by Lauren Oliver – I’m pretty sure I’ve told everyone in my life to read this novel. The premise is unique and the execution is flawless. Oliver’s writing is absolutely stunning, and I just need everyone to read this series.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell – This is another more recent read, but I thought it was incredibly adorable and relatable.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare – While I like TMI, I love this series even more. I feel like everyone knows about TMI now that it has been adapted into a movie and a TV series, so when people express interest in that series, I always point them to The Infernal Devices.

If you haven’t read any of these, I sincerely hope you do! I found all of these novels to be utterly unputdownable. If you’d like to chat with me about these books (or any books, really) feel free to chat me up at ANY time. I’m always on board with making new bookish friends.

#SBPT | Week 2: Krystianna of Downright Dystopian @thebookbratz @dwnritdystopian

Posted 10 July, 2016 by katheryn13 in Blog Talks, Blogging Challenges, Fun, Updates / 0 Comments

LCnv16E7 (1)

Howdy everyone! Another week, another blogger to promote. Today is all about Krystianna from Downright Dystopian. She’ll be telling us about her reading habits with the Reader Problems Book Tag. Take it away, girl! 🙂

1: You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what

to read next?

If I had that many books on my TBR, I’d probably just close my eyes and point to
all the books. Whichever one I was pointing directly at is the one that I’d pick up
and read.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quitor are you committed?

I’m committed! I always stick books through because sometimes the endings can
make all the difference.

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away onyour Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

Yes! I’d probably try to find some thinner books on my TBR or pick up some
graphic novels.

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

I don’t. :/

5. Every one and their mother loves a book you really don’t like. Who doyou bond with over shared feelings?

I’d probably just keep searching for someone else who didn’t love the book as
much as me. Perhaps one of the people that love it even have the tiniest issue
with the book and that could be something I could bond over with them.

6. You’re reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?

I’d probably just run to the nearest bathroom.

7. A sequel of a book you loved just came out, but you’ve forgotten a lotfrom the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to finda synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?!?!?

To start, I’d probably try to find an in-depth Goodreads review about the book. If that doesn’t work, I’d probably try to reread the book!

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people nope when they ask?

Instead of saying no I’d try to change the subject. I don’t like hurting people’s
feelings!

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month.

How do you get over your reading slump?

When I’m in a reading slump, I tend to binge-watch Netflix. After binging for
however long, I will switch back to reading books. Sometimes I just need a break!

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read!

How many do you actually buy?

When there’s a lot of books coming out that I want to read, I try to look at the
library first to see if they have any of them. If they don’t, I’d try to buy only one
that I know I can’t live without.

11. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long do

they sit on your shelf before you get to them?

This is honestly so bad of me, but they will sit on my shelf for quite a few
months… sometimes even a year.

Thanks to Krystianna for taking part, and to The Book Bratz for organising this tour! Don’t forget to follow the #SBPT hashtag to find other posts! 🙂

#SBPT | Week 1: Valerie of HeSaidBooksOrMe

Posted 3 July, 2016 by katheryn13 in Blog Talks, Blogging Challenges, Fun, Interviews, Updates / 2 Comments

LCnv16E7 (1)
HEY! Welcome to the first weekend of the Summer Blog Promo Tour! It was organised by the wonderful girls at The Book Bratz. For the next 7 Sundays I’ll be publishing a post that basically pimps out a different blogger. They deserve it, after all. All the hard work we all put in. Today’s post is all about Valerie from HeSaidBooksOrMe. I will be interviewing her, and finding out what makes her tick… 😛
CherryBlossom-Divider
1) Well, hello there, Valerie of He Said Books Or Me. I checked out your blog and it’s mighty pretty, how long have you had it and what inspired you to  start blogging?
 Thank you and thanks for hosting me :)! I have had my book blog just a little over a year now. I actually have had a personal blog for about eight years for updating family and friends on our daily lives but then the book parts started taking over, so my mother in law suggested that I try a book blog. I liked it and went with it! 🙂

2) Out of interest, how old are you and at what age did you get into reading…y’know…as more than a hobby? 😛
Old enough to have a mother in law. haha 🙂 A lady never tells her age!
Oh gosh…I have always been a reader. When I was a little girl I would memorize the stories so that I could ‘read’ them to my sister. Books have always been such a big part of my life, I don’t ever recall a time when they weren’t.

3) Kiss, Marry, Kill: Draco, Hermione, Neville?
Kiss Neville, Marry Hermione (the best conversations!), and Kill Draco.

4) You’re on an island and you have three books with you, but suddenly a storm strikes and you manage to save only one! Oh no! What books did you have to sacrifice? (and which one did you save?)
Oh gosh this is hard…I would have saved The Richest Man in Town, because it is my favorite book ever. The other two probably would have had to go. Hard to say what they were because I am a bit of a mood reader sometimes, but it wouldn’t matter because I would always save that book.
5) I saw on your blog you like to travel: where’s the one place you’d love to visit?
I love to travel! I want to go to ALL of the places. Seriously. I have been to 44/50 states (with two more that I should be visiting this Fall). I have been to 2 continents so far, but will be getting my third also this Fall! 🙂
6) Do you listen to music whilst reading, if so, what kind?
I love music, but not usually while reading. When I do have music on it it is usually country. 🙂 I grew up in North Dakota so it reminds me of home!
7) Do you have a favourite snack while you’re reading?
Does coffee or tea count? I love a warm drink while I read 🙂

8) How many books do you own?
Ummmm…maybe around 100 books? Not a ton. I have actually tried really hard to keep my stacks from being out of control. I try to bring them to Little Free Libraries when I am done with them.
9) Do you like reading challenges? If so what’s the most you’ve read in a week before?
Yes, I love them! Probably one of the 24 hour readathons. They are intense!

10)  If genres were colours, what do YOU think they’d be? i.e: Green = Fantasy
Red=Thriller/Mystery
Orange=Drama
Yellow=Non-fiction
Green=Self-Help
Blue=Classics
Purple=Romance
Black=Sci Fi/Fantasy

11) It’s been a pleasure having you here, one last question, What’s your most anticipated book for either this year or 2017?
I am really looking forward to Elin Hilderbrand’s Winter Storms out in October! 🙂

So there you have it! Thank you so much to Valerie for taking the time out to answer my weird and wonderful questions. I hope you’ve all found this enlightening and make sure to check out her blog! Share the love! 🙂 Also be sure to check out the hashtag #SBPT on twitter to see other bloggers promo posts.
Until next week,
-Kat
